Bridges - Sergey Novikov
This move, immigration from the country due to political reasons, prompts a deeper examination of the cruel individual and collective past. Taking into account the changed circumstances of place and time, it inevitably aligns with the attempts to adapt to a new social order and integrate into the new space. Using various methods and practices of the medium, such as reenactment and a near documentary approach, this new series reveals global concerns about complicated histories, political regimes and personal traumas.
Documentary-based, the project depicts people of my generation, mostly artists and activists, gathering and fooling around UK streets and spaces, reflecting on their struggles in a period of involuntary migration. These newcomers are faced with social and financial vulnerabilities and vague career aspirations. Photographs, inspired by people's surroundings and duties, serve here not just as a document of modernity, but also as an alternative imaginative story linked with the long-term consequences of the war conflict.
